Baby Sleeper Pattern

The Totally Twisted Pattern is now used to make a Baby Sleeper!

I’ve been dreaming of some baby knits that I can quickly whip during this last month of my pregnancy. Blankets are super fun but they can take a long time. This is especially true for people who aren’t super fast knitters. A cousin of ours had gifted us some swaddlers and it got me thinking – why not a knitted version? And thus I hit the drawing board, sketching up ideas for a baby sleeper knitting pattern.

I love the Totally Twisted pattern. The simplicity but also the texture of it. So I decided to use that for the main chunk of the baby sleeper. I just had to figure out the rest of the details. Would it be bottom up? Or did I want to knit it top down? What kind of cast on and cast off method would I use? So many exciting questions!

The Birth of the Baby Sleeper

Ultimately, I liked the bottom up orientation of this pattern in the hat, so I decided to use that here. This means the baby sleeper uses a circular or disappearing loop cast on, to get a nice cinched bottom. Increases are worked at regular intervals to work up to the number of stitches needed – and then the pattern starts from there.

I’ve built this pattern to be easily edited. Babies, just like pregnancies, are very unique and they come in all shapes and sizes. The Totally Twisted pattern is a 13 stitch repeat, so you just need to do a little bit of math and can easily customize the pattern to your little one.

The top of the pattern features a twisted rib to give a nice and neat edge to the sleeper.
