Spring Daisy Shawl

The Free Pattern for the Spring Daisy Shawl

The Spring Daisy Shawl is a simple pattern, embracing the daisy stitch, that can be made into a scarf or a shawl based on the number of stitches you choose to cast on.  The daisy stitch is a delicate looking stitch that is not super complicated to work. If you can purl, with some practice, you can work this stitch.  This is worked in an acrylic worsted weight yarn keeping it soft and flexible, perfect for throwing on in the morning, and tossing in your bag as the day warms up.

The Daisy Stitch:

This stitch is worked across a series of four stitches, and over four rows.  It utilizes knits, Purls, Yarn Overs and Purling Together, to make little starburst or daisy shaped stitches.  These stitches are offset, every other row to make a cascading look.

Yarn: KnitPicks Mighty Stitch, in your shades/colors of choice.

Gauge:  4.5 STS = 1″ on US Size #6 Needle

Abbreviations:

CO: Cast ON
STS: Stitches
K: Knit
P: Purl
P3Tog: Purl the next three stitches together, as if purling one stitch
YO: Yarn over

How to Knit the Daisy Stitch:

This is worked over three stitches.

Step 1: Purl the next three stitches together, but do not take them off of the left needle.  You will have three stitches on your left and one new on your right.

Step 2: Yarn over, by wrapping your working yarn around the right needle.

Step 3: Insert your needle back through the three stitches on your left hand needle and purl them together again.

Now you have worked three stitches together, twice, with a yarn over – resulting in an even number of stitches.

Care Instructions: Machine washable, tumble dry (or whatever the skein label normally says.)

Needle: US Size 6 needle -straight or circular.  I prefer to work with circular needles myself. Tapestry Needle
