Rabbit Tracks Hat

A Colorful Knit Hat for Toddlers and Kids that mimics Rabbit Tracks in the snow.

Inspired after knitting my Reindeer Tracks post, I’ve created a fun hat for kids, and a stash buster for knitters. You’ll need less than a full skein of yarn in two colors to knit this colorful cap.

Berroco had sent me a package of their comfort worsted yarns for a charity project that I was working on. With the yarn, I knitted dog sweaters for donation to local animal shelters and sanctuaries. But I had some left over in quantities too small for a sweater. So I knitted them into hats and donated them to another shelter’s charity auction.

Why is this yarn perfect for kids and dogs? Its machine washable and durable: two qualities that are important when mess makers and ruff players are involved.

The Rabbit Tracks hat is fun to knit and is great if you’re just starting to learn how to knit with multiple strands of yarn or change colors. The instructions in this pattern are completely written out.

Yarn: Two colors of worsted weight yarn.  For this pattern, I’ve use two of Berroco’s Comfort worsted weight yarn as they donated it to me to make items for charity.  This yarn is great for kids because it’s machine washable and dry-able. I recommend using gentle settings for the best results.

Gauge: 26 Stitches by 36 rows = a 4in by 4 in swatch

Needles: US Size 2, in an 16 inch circular needle, and depending on how you like to shape the crown of your hats, US Size 2 double pointed needles.  A darning needle to work in the yarn tails.

Just received these photos from Kathleen – how adorable is the hat in these colors? It makes me want to drop all of my WIPs and knit this hat again. Thanks Kathleen!
