Look Dashing in Fasching

This little shawl was inspired by Spring and this fabulous hand dyed yarn from YarnBaby. It combines gorgeous spring colors with the daisy stitch for a lovely little crescent shawl.

The word Fasching is the German equivalent of Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras. Typically celebrants enjoy a special type of doughnut on this day – a sweet treat before preparing for Easter. Since I started knitting this shawl on Fasching, I thought the title was appropriate. It’s a sweet little pattern that looks dashing for the spring.

Hence: Dashing in Fasching.

I have to give the lovely guys and gals in the knitting facebook group “Knit and Chat” a hearty thank you as they really helped name this one too. There were so many great suggestions!

This is a crescent shaped shawl, which means when finished, it’s shaped a bit like a half circle, and the ends have a lovely curl when draped over your shoulder.

The daisy stitch, tricky at first but then so easy you could purl it with your eyes closed, forms the textured sections in this shawl. I’ve posted a short video below on the main step of this stitch.

To form the daisy, on a wrong side or purl side row: *K1, [P3tog, YO, P3tog],* You’ll repeat this to just before the end of the row, then work a YO and K3 to finish the row.

This shawl, much like the Bramble Berry, was inspired by my Moonbeam Shawl for Darn Good Yarn.

What you need to knit the Dashing in Fasching Shawl:

Yarn: About 800 (+/-) of DK or #3 weight yarn.
For the Dashing in Fashing shawl, I used two skeins of hand dyed yarn from Yarn Baby

Needle: US Number 3 or 3.25 mm in 40 CM length.

You can grab the pattern on Ravelry.
