Sawyer Hat

A Knit Hat Perfect for the Rugged Gents in Your Life

Guys tend to like simple geometric patterns and lines. The Sawyer Hat gives them this in a warm and functional hat. This is a hat they’ll reach for time and time again, all winter long.

The inspiration for the Sawyer Hat is my husband. Together we went yarn shopping and he picked out this cobblestone by Lion Brand Yarn in two colors. We decided that we would use this yarn to make two new hats for him for Christmas. And although he asked me to finish all my other Christmas knitting first, I couldn’t resist.

You can find this yarn at your local JoAnn Fabrics. Here is the link. We snagged it on sale.

About the Sawyer Hat Pattern

This pattern is simple, and fully written out. The pattern itself fits onto one page. The brim is a simple twisted rib that is knit on a smaller needle for fit and feel. The rest of the hat is a simple two row repeat until you reach the crown of the hat. Even the decrease section is short and sweet.

You’ll need a US Size 3 and US Size 5 circular knitting needle. If you prefer double pointed needles the hat will work well on them as well but you won’t need them if you prefer circular needles.

Most of the hat sizes should be a simple skein in length. The large may require a second skein. Typically I like to buy two skeins for my hats just in case. If you only need one you can return the extra skein or knit the hat again.
