Christmas Tree Ornament Sweaters

A simple yet sweet way to add some fiber to your Christmas Tree

Who says the Christmas Tree Skirt should be the only knitted project on your tree?  Last year I started making some Christmas Tree Ornament sweaters based on someone else’s pattern.  I told myself that this year, when I had more time, I would make patterns of my own. If you followed along, last year’s patterns were top down and featured a turtleneck like top.  This pattern snuggly fits around an ornament and is a simple yet sweet addition to your tree.

Yes, there are patterns for mini sweaters that you hang on your tree as ornaments.  Stay with me.  This pattern is to knit a simple cover for an ornament that, maybe you are no longer thrilled with.  In our apartment, our tree was silver.  In our new home, we’ve gone with red.  So I’m knitting red covers or sweaters over the silver ornaments we already have.  Frugal, fun and festive!

The pattern features double pointed needles.  Starting with just four stitches can be a bit of a challenge if this is your first time using DPNs but I have confidence that you’ll do just fine.  I’ve tried to start you off with just one needle for the cast on and first round of the pattern, switching to DPNs when you have a bit of a sturdier start.

Break Yarn and thread it through all of the live stitches.  Work them so they are snug around the silver ornament topper and knot.  Use darning needle to weave in ends.
