Description

A hat to match their bright spirits

The first version of Addy’s Hat came out a bit on the small side but it was perfect for babies and toddlers.  After publishing this hat pattern, I received many requests to make it in a bigger size for kids as well.  Now the Addy Hat Pattern for Kids is available for download!

Just like it’s smaller version, the Addy Hat is perfect for two different types of Caron Simply Soft yarns.  I love the combination of these yarns.  The white is so soft and sweet.  Adding it to the pompom really brings it all together as well.

A white yarn in Caron Simply Soft.  And for a bit of flair, Simply Soft Party in Silver Sparkle.

You can also choose to knit this hat in a solid color.  I made the baby size version for my son and it’s absolutely adorable.

You’ll Need the Following to Knit the Addy Hat for Kids

Other Tools:
US Size 3 Circular needles between 12 and 16 inches long. You have the option of sizing up to a US Size 5 needle for the body of the hat if you’d like.
US Size 3 DPN or cable needle.

Pattern Notes for the Addy Hat for kids:

C4F means take the next four stitches onto a cable or DPN and hold at the front of the work.  Knit the next four stitches and then work the four you’ve been holding.

C4B means take the next four stitches onto a cable or DPN and hold at the back of the work.  Knit the next four stitches and then work the four you’ve been holding.

Purl decrease: Slip 1 PW and WYIF, P2Tog, PSSO.
To work this decrease, bring your yarn to the front as if you were going to purl, and slip the next stitch from your left needle, to the right needle.  But Don’t work it.  Purl the next two stitches together.  Now, Take the slipped stitch and lift it up and over the two you have purled together.  This is a means of decreasing two stitches at a time while providing an even look.

Long tail cast on method

Joining in the round

Twisted Rib

If you’d like to add a pompom, it adds a great bit of flair and I think helps the fit, as this hat is likely to be more beanie and less skull cap for many little ones.
