Ring in the New Year with First Tracks

A simple yet elegant shawl for any occasion

I am head over heals with the First Tracks shawl and I really think you will be too. Initially I designed and made this as a gift but as it came to life I wanted to keep it so badly. Triangular shawls are so much fun and they are so multifunctional. The simple design in the first tracks shawl makes it a great option for any occasion. This design is perfect for a high quality yarn that you want to showcase. Construction of this project utilizes stockinette stitch and Vikkel braids to carry a single stitch across the full shawl.

Suggested Yarn:

Knit Picks makes a fabulous tweed yarn in stunning colors. It’s a dream to work with and it needs a design that lets the yarn speak. This yarn was made for this shawl. To knit the shawl as it is designed you’ll need about six skeins of this fingering weight yarn.

You’ll Also Need:

For this project, I recommend a US Size two needle which is a 2.75mm needle. With it being a larger shawl having a longer needle to work with will make it easier. Also, a personal preference for me on this project is to use a circular needle as the weight will hang in a way that makes it easier on your wrists.

You’ll also need four stitch markers.

A tapestry needle will be needed at the end to weave in the yarn tails.

Choose Your Own Adventure Border

This shawl features two different border option. Once you’ve knit the shawl, you pick either to knit the border to match the top edge of the shawl. Or, you can follow the fully written instructions to crochet the border.
