Transforming Plastic Ornaments into the Bobbles Sugar Plum Dreams Are Made of…

We have a total of five Christmas trees right now. Two six foot skinny trees in the kids rooms, two big ones on the main level, and one that is about to bite the dust on the back porch. We need a fair amount of Christmas Tree Bobbles. But I don’t want to blow the entire Christmas budget decorating the trees. So I’ve been on a bit of a Christmas Ornament Tutorials and Patterns kick lately.

Knitted Bobble:

First, I’ll drop the links to my knitted ornament sweaters (plain) here and (cabled) here. I love these little guys and they are still to date, my favorite ornaments. These use worsted weight yarn and double pointed needles. Te beginning of the pattern is a bit finicky if you are new to double pointed needles, but you get the hang of it pretty quickly and then you’re off to the races! These are so fun that I plan on making more so stick around for new patterns.

Glittered Christmas Ornament DIY Tutorial:

Yes, you have to be a fan of glitter for these sparkling ornaments. If not, you’ll hate the process. I always have plain or clear plastic bobbles on hand for Christmas Crafts. If you haven’t caught wind by now, I love a Christmas Tree but I love decorating them even more.

All you need for these babies is Mod Podge or glue, glitter of your choice, and a spray sealant. I found coarse glitter was more forgivable creating an even coating. All of these you can typically find at your local craft store. A paint brush is helpful for applying the glue evenly to the ornament. Shake your glitter on, and hang it to dry. Then take it outside and spray it with sealant. If you skip the last part you’ll have glitter all over instead of just your work space.

Book Page Christmas Ornament DIY Tutorial:

I LOVE these little vintage book page bobbles. I ordered vintage book pages on Etsy a while back and have been using them for everything from buntings to bobbles. They’re great quality and there were these really weathered pages that were a bit darker than the rest. You need some pages, some glue, and a paint brush! Other DIY Ornaments:

Not Bobbles but still a favorite are my flannel Christmas Tree Ornaments. I’ve made these in mittens, and hearts. You could make these in just about any shape – even bobbles!
