Totally Twisted Knitted Hat is Revamped!

Get the Pattern for Totally Twisted

Originally published in December of 2018, I’ve revamped the Totally Twisted pattern with an optional folded brim, and knit it in a soft new yarn from Paintbox.  Check out the details below and find the pattern on Ravelry.

A fun cable knit hat that pops in a bright color and is complete with delicate details that are easy to knit, this knitting pattern combines front or left twisting cables with the knit below technique to form a beautiful beanie that anyone will want to wear.

I’ve included sizes for adult small, medium and large in this pattern, as well as notes on how to knit a cable and knit two below.  Featured on this hat is a faux fur pompom, but you can add a pop of color with a yarn pompom, or tassel, the choice is yours!

This hat is a lot of fun to knit and of course that means I love wearing it around.  I can’t wait to make another one of these, and even try it with two strands of yarn, so stay tuned for more updates on this pattern!

The name for this pattern was suggested by Marlene Kern, who is a member of the Knit and Chat Facebook group with me.  She sweetly suggested this name for another one of my patterns and it was just too good not to use.

What You’ll need to knit the This Hat:

Yarn: Paint Box Worsted Weight Acrylic Yarn 1-2 skeins based on your size, brim, and pompom selections. You can grab this yarn off of Love Knitting on sale now!

Previously featured: Big Twist Premium Yarns (#4 weight).

I selected this yarn because of its color and how easy it is to work with while you knit the hat – but also how easy it is to care for after it’s been worn.  I baby my knitting but not everyone else does, and I don’t want them to be afraid to wear and use my hats.  If you’d rather knit this hat out of wool or a different type of fiber, go right ahead and do so, as long as its a medium weighted yarn or use two strands to obtain the right gauge.

Gauge: 20 STS (2 sections of right twist to cable) X 24 rows = 4”X4” on a US Size 7

Needles:
US Size 5 needle for brim

Size US 7 and 7 circular needles and US Size 7 DPNs – A cable needle is optional as I just use one of my DPNs most often.

If you’re like me and wear glasses, and a wider brim is beneficial you can start with the size 7 needles or simply knit the next size up.
