Trail Hiking Hat is Redesigned and Relaunched!

The popular pattern for the Trail Hiking Hat is redesigned for a better fit and sleek new look!

Originally launched back in June of 2018 (crazy right!?), this chunky braided hat kitting pattern has received a lot of love. But there’s always room for improvement right? So I’ve reknit the hat, removed some of the purls and changed the shape of the crown to make it a true beanie and relaunched the pattern. The Trail Hiking Hat is ready for the new decade!

New Yarn for the Trail Hiking Hat:

Originally I recommended Big Twist Yarn for this hat. While I do still love this yarn (I’m currently knitting a new hat pattern with it), I’ve opted for the Painbox Yarns Acrylic yarn for the relaunch of this pattern.

You can grab the yarn in a sale pack here. They have over 50 shades available in just the acrylic. Plus there are some great ombre packs that you can grab too!

The kids and small run about 1 skein of yarn (maybe two if you do a folded brim). The larger sizes you’ll need two skeins of your choice of color.

What You’ll need to knit this pattern:

Needles:

You’ll need one set of US Size 5 circular knitting needles for the brim. For the body of the hat, you’ll need one set of US Size 7 circular kitting needles. I recommend a US Size 7 DPN to knit the cables, but you can always use a cable knitting needle in a similar size if you have it handy.

Pompom:

This hat is designed to be knit with a pompom. I have loads of the faux fur pompoms that I made before Christmas on hand so that’s what I’ve gone with. If you prefer a yarn pompom, have at it!

You can find a YouTube tutorial for these faux fur pompoms here.
